應外系系學會
由於本系隸屬管理學院，課程架構中一向有一定比例之管理及商務相關科目。晚近為配合學生升學及就業之選擇，本系的發展目標積極朝向於提供學生一個奠定堅強外（英）語基礎的課程，培育英文聽、說、讀、寫能力俱佳之外（英）語人才，進而利用各種不同的必選修課程，組成模組，以培育具專業外（英）語素養之人才，包括文學或語言學研究人才、英語教學師資、各行業翻譯人才、及商業貿易外語人才等。換言之，本系為兼顧學生升學及就業兩大出路，除核心課程著重於外（英）語聽說讀寫能力之均衡發展，文學、語言學或英語教學之專業薰陶外，應用課程亦力求實務並與社會需求接軌，期能藉著多元文化及國際化的基礎教育、加上專業化的分科訓練，建立以人文為本、實務為用的應用外語學系。
The department emphasized language communication skills and literature courses. Because the world is moving fast toward internationalization, and industry needs professionals with language expertise. Therefore, the department again changed its name in 1998 to the Department of Applied Foreign Languages. Now the department’s goal is to train students to have skills in different fields, so they can become business professionals with competent language ability, good English teachers, or language interpreters.
